YÖKDİL, adayların kendi alanlarındaki (Fen Bilimleri, Sosyal Bilimler, Sağlık Bilimleri) dil becerilerini belirleyen bir yabancı dil sınavıdır. Yükseköğretim kurumlarında lisansüstü eğitim ve doçentlik sınavlarına başvurmak isteyen adaylar ile üniversiteler tarafından akademik dil yeterlilik puanı istenen adaylar sınava başvurabilirler. YDS’ye bir alternatiftir ve onunla çok benzerlikleri olduğu kadar farklılıkları da vardır.
Sınav 180 dakika sürer ve 80 sorudan oluşur. Cloze test, Cümle Tamamlama, Çeviri, Paragraf Tamamlama, Anlamı Bozan Cümle ve Paragraf soru türlerinden oluşur.

YÖKDİL is a foreign language test which determines the language skills of the candidates in their fields (Science, Social Sciences, Health Sciences). Applicants who wish to apply for post-graduate education and associate professorship exams in higher education institutions, and candidates who are asked to score academic language proficiency points by universities can apply for the exam. It is an alternative to YDS, and has very similarities as well as difference with it.
The examination takes 180 minutes and consists of 80 questions. It is a test in English and, unlike YDS, has three branches: science, health and social. It consists of Cloze Test, Sentence Completion, Translation, Paragraph Completion, Irrelevant Sentence and Paragraph question types.
